2007 INDIVIDUAL AWARD OF HONOUR
WHIMBREL SOLAR ECLIPSE AOH
(*Telynau Royal Charter LOM/LOM/AOE/AOH x Oz Magic Bell)
Our introduction into the wonderful world of Welsh ponies was through mentor Tammy Burgin of Farmore Farms in 2000. The following year we decided to breed our prized Arabian mare, Bell, who we co-own with dear friend Tracy Green, to Tammy’s incomparable stallion Charter. During the summer of 2002 a rather unassuming, lanky colt was born to us. Later that day a spectacular total solar eclipse gave us signs of things to come.
As a yearling, Solar lived the life of a happy pasture pony. However, half way through his 2nd year, our trainer Brianna “Breezy” Mastel couldn’t stand it anymore and insisted “He’s turned out just too beautiful to be left at home, let’s show him!” Breezy and Solar took a Reserve Championship at their very first show, and over the next 2 ½ years the two became almost unbeatable – and almost inseparable. Solar joined Breezy at Fresno State Univ while she finished her degree in Equine Sciences, and he became a thing of beauty whether showing in halter or being ridden English or Western. Some of the highlights in his young career included 2006 National Reserve Championships in Halter and in Adult Western Pleasure, a halter Grand Championship at the 2006 American Nationals in Tulsa, 2007 National Reserve Champion in Adult Western Pleasure, and championships at the 2007 American Nationals in both Western and English.
His graceful athleticism, excellent conformation, and sweet disposition are a true testament to his superior breeding and sound training. To have a pony accomplish so much for us during the early years of our Welsh Pony “career”, knowing many wait more than a lifetime for similar awards, is both humbling and exhilarating. Thanks to all who have given us support and guidance, in particular Tammy and Breezy.
